Deconstruction and the Depths of Broken Faith: Jonah 1:4-17

Deconstruction and the Depths of Broken Faith: Jonah 1:4-17 – What does it look like when a prophet of God walks through a crisis of faith? What happens when the crisis is so acute that he would rather leave the faith than follow after God and his plan? It looks like the book of Jonah. In our current day with a myriad of people sharing their experiences of “deconstruction,” many find validation and even a glimmer of hope as they process their pain and disillusionment with others. With Jonah, we find a man so unwilling to accept a mission from God that he would rather leave the faith altogether. However, the hope of the message of Christ, is that no matter how dark our experience, or how much we disagree with God and his plans, we cannot escape the objective truth of the resurrection and therefore we must push through our situation to see and experience the mercy of God.
